Red Bull Soapbox Race

Over 100,000 people descended upon Downtown Los Angeles for the 2009 Red Bull Soapbox Race. Forty teams were selected from over 1500 applicants. Teams are judged on three criteria: Creativity, speed and showmanship - but crowd favorites and spectacular crashes obviously play a major role in securing the trophy.
Hosts included Jillian Barbarie, Paul Rodriguez and Chris Ernst. Judges included Erik Estrada, Kim Caldwell, Ronnie Renner and Sam Masekela.

The Pit area opened early to get a view of the teams competing. Early standouts were the Apocalypse team, the Star Wars crew and the Pole Position ladies. The banana hammock team won hands down for being the loudest and most vocal of all the teams.

The Ironheade team snagged the top trophy for a more than perfect score with their hotrod style soapbox, barreling down the track intact and screaming across the finish line.
The Red Bull was flowing, the sun was blazing, and it was great to see Downtown Los Angeles so alive on a Saturday – hope to see the teams there again next year.
